GENERAL POINTS TO CONSIDER

• Weathering often involves some level of destruction of the model it’s being applied to, so ensure that you practise thoroughly before applying it.

• For reference, one photo of the exact texture you’re going for is all you need, but ensure that it is absolutely exact. Credibility is everything here.

Rust: Cinnamon and PVA

Rust is often a model maker’s delight as it introduces a fantastic dose of texture along with a wealth of vivid colours. However, with this comes a downside – it is an exceptionally easy technique to overdo. Image reference is vital, more to rein yourself in rather than to replicate the qualities of the texture itself. Also important to note is that rust differs from corrosion, as it only forms when iron is exposed to oxygen; hence the two separate methods outlined in this chapter.
